Sault Tribe, Inc.

The effort to establish Sault Tribe Incorporated began in 2010 with the BIA’s approval of a corporate charter as outlined in Section 17 of the Indian Reorganization Act. In 2019 the Sault Tribe Board of Directors signed a resolution to appoint a corporate Board of Directors to Sault Tribe Incorporated. Sault Tribe Incorporated functions as a holding company utilized to form and support various business ventures and partnerships with the expressed intent of economic development.

While wholly-owned by the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, the Section 17 federal corporate charter provides separation from the Tribe’s government functions and structure, while retaining all of the benefits afforded to the Tribal government as whole.

2020 saw the establishment of Sault Tribe Inc.’s first for-profit subsidiary, Chippewa Government Solutions (CGS). CGS provides Instructional Media Design services through government contracting under the SBA’s 8(a) program.
